Our concept of and approach to wine comes from two beliefs: Wine is meant to be enjoyed and the world of wine is meant to be explored.

The enjoyment of wine can come in many different ways and at many different levels. Enjoyment may be found in a $7.99 red from a little-known area of France or it may be found in a high-end, small-production Pinot Noir from Oregon. We seek wines that offer enjoyment from the most basic to the most sublime, from something to accompany spaghetti and meatballs to wines for a special occasion multi-course dinner. While wine in itself provides profound enjoyment, the enjoyment of wine cannot be separated from the enjoyment of food. Wine and food just go together and the wines we offer need to go with food, too. We strive to offer wines from the everyday to the exceptional.

The world of wine is more diverse, dynamic and exciting than ever before. In the market, sales are still dominated by Chardonnay, Pinot Grigio, Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon (with Shiraz coming on strong), and we will continuosuly and selectively offer examples of these varietals that represent quality and value and which showcase winemakers that national-level marketing campaigns miss. Even so, the wine world extends far beyond those over-commercialized shores and the wines we seek and the wines we offer represent a generous slice of the incredible spectrum of wines from around the world. Just as the cuisines that Americans enjoy span the globe, we look for wines that complement these ever-changing, fresh cuisines. We want our customers to explore wine and we use our experience and knowledge to be guides and interpreters.

Summer Roses - 2008

Rosé has become hot in the past couple of years and certainly if you travel anywhere along the Mediterranean from Spain to France to Italy during the summer months you’ll enjoy the pleasures of chilled dry rosé. And don’t let the color deter you; these rosés have virtually nothing in common with the sweet blush wine such as white zinfandel.
Dry rosé is a natural partner with all kinds of warm weather dishes from grilled foods to summer salads. Many dry rosé wines have enough body to accompany grilled foods including chicken, pork tenderloin, and even a burger. Many rosés can easily accompany a salad, grilled vegetables, fish, and is great foil for almost any savory, slightly salty appetizer. And don’t forget to chill down rosé wine to drink at a picnic or while hanging out on the deck. Rosé is summertime.

Brunello di Montalcino 2003 Offering

Brunello di Montalcino is the great glory of Tuscan wine, displaying richness, power, finesse and ageability. While 2003 was hot during the growing season and expectations were lower than usual, quality has been consistently maintained, yielding surprisingly good results. Reviewers such as Antonio Galloni from Robert Parker’s publications found the Brunellos and Rossos that we have chosen to be of excellent quality, giving them scores between 90 and 92. The 2003 Brunellos are ready to drink now, but can also be held for 8-10 years. The 2006 Rossos were also from a hot vintage, but these wines also are of excellent quality. Antonio Galloni from the Wine Advocate states that “The 2006 Rossos have plenty of generosity and ripeness in their fruit, but are also wonderfully balanced” (Article Archive number 424).

Estate bottled olive oils

Estate-bottled olive oils share many qualities with estate-grown and produced wines, and in Europe olives trees and vineyards are side by side. The finest olive oils are grown on small amounts of land, hand harvested in the fall, cold pressed and bottled soon after, and distributed the following winter. Many of these olive oils have a vintage similar to wine, and many of the oils we carry are from the 2007 vintage. We carry extra-virgin olive oils from Tuscany and Puglia in Italy, and the Jumilla and Catalan regions of Spain.
